How does the caffeine tracker work?

The caffeine tracker estimates your daily intake based on the shots you log. It assumes ~63mg per shot (standard for espresso) or ~135mg for double shots. Decaf beans are automatically excluded.

Where's my data stored?

Your shots, beans and gear stay on your device. On iOS that's secure on-device storage. On web it's the browser's localStorage, so clearing browser data deletes your shots. The Community Bean Library shares anonymised, aggregated bean details and recipe averages by default, but individual shot rows never leave your device and you can switch sharing off in Settings. No accounts. Always export your data to keep a backup.

How do I back up my data?

Export as JSON (full backup) or CSV (for spreadsheets) from Profile → Export & Import. Save the file to your cloud storage (iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox) so you never lose your shot history.

Can I move my data between devices?

Yes! Go to Profile → Export & Import to download your shots and beans as JSON. Then on your other device, use Import backup and select the file. This works across phones, tablets and computers - no account needed.

Yes. The built-in extraction timer lets you tap to start when you engage the pump and tap to stop when you hit your target yield. The time is automatically saved with your shot.

Can I freeze my beans?

Yes. Tap the snowflake icon on any bean to freeze it. This pauses freshness aging so the roast age stops counting. When you thaw the bean, the age picks up where it left off.

Each grinder in your equipment profile has its own step size setting. When the app suggests going one step finer or coarser, it uses your grinder's actual increment so the advice is practical.

Open the app, tap the + button, and enter your dose, yield, time and grind setting. You can also start the built-in timer before pulling your shot. Rate your shot out of 10, add optional tasting notes, and save. The whole process takes under 30 seconds.

What is a good espresso ratio?

A standard espresso ratio is 1:2, meaning 18g of coffee in produces 36g of espresso out. Lighter roasts often taste better at higher ratios (1:2.2 to 1:2.5), while darker roasts can shine at lower ratios (1:1.5 to 1:2). Puck Yeah calculates your ratio automatically from dose and yield.

When you add a bean with a roast date, Puck Yeah automatically calculates the days off roast for every shot you log. If you freeze and thaw beans, the app subtracts frozen time from the roast age calculation so your freshness reading stays accurate.
